Opening The IAA Workshop For Data Science Africa

The data science Africa workshop at the Institute of Accountancy Arusha has been officially opened by the Minister of State, President's Office, Zanzibar State House Hon. Jamal Kassim Ali (IAA).

The Honorable Minister declared during the workshop's opening that the workshop's presence in Tanzania will allow lecturers and students at higher education institutions to learn about this technology, which will bring about significant changes in society.

He has also stated that data science is significant in Tanzania, therefore the presence of these professionals from other nations will help to advance various systems, including communication technology, which will support the growth of the economy.

Additionally, Dr. Mwamini Tulli, the chair of the Institute of Accountancy Arusha (IAA) Governing Council, has stated that data science education is crucial since it is essential for any development to have access to reliable data.

Dr. Tulli has added that there is the importance of adding data science education to the curricula of higher education institutions, in order to be able to have many professionals with skills and knowledge in that education for the wider benefit of the Nation.

Also, the Chairman of the Board of (Data Science Africa) from Kenya, Dr. Ciira Maina has said that many students of higher education have gained knowledge through this education to be able to solve economic, agricultural and health problems. He has given an opinion to other higher education institutions to support them so that this education reaches as many students as possible.

Dr. Maina continued by saying that they formally began this process in 2013, and as of right now, the Data Science Africa community comprises more than six hundred members from many different nations.

"I have learned many things through Data Science Africa, and I have also met my colleagues from different countries who have studied what I have studied, so it is good for others to get this data science education to bring positive change in our world," said Sandra Opiyo, a participant from Kenya, when asked how she benefited from the field of data science.

At the Institute of Accountancy Arusha (IAA), this workshop was formally inaugurated with attendees from different nations around Africa and the rest of the world.
